DC-area Screening and Benefit for Historic Green, Tuesday Feb 3, 2009

SILVERDOCS Presents TROUBLE THE WATER in a special screening followed by a special event for the New Orleans-based community organization Historic Green on Tuesday, Feb. 3. The event begins with a special screening of the film on Tuesday, February 3, 7:00 p.m. at the AFI Silver Theatre & Cultural Center in Silver Spring, MD, followed by a reception and silent auction. We are honored that the film has been listed on many critics 2008 top ten lists -- in the LA Times, the New Yorker, Salon, Entertainment Weekly, and New York magazine among other publications. ACADEMY UNVEILS LIST OF ELIGIBLE SONGS

As reported in Variety late Tuesday: Forty-nine eligible songs are in the running for Oscar nominations. List includes 11 tracks from "High School Musical 3: Senior Year" and three from "Repo! The Genetic Opera." Songs from two docus -- "They Killed Sister Dorothy" and "Trouble the Water" -- also made the cut.

That's right, the title track from TROUBLE THE WATER, performed and composed for the film by Kimberly Rivers Roberts, aka BlackKoldMadina, is eligible in the Best Original Song category. TROUBLE THE WATER was awarded the prize for Best Documentary at the The IFP's 18th annual Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York Tuesday evening.
