40th NAACP IMAGE AWARDS LIVE ON THURSDAY!!

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) will be celebrating its 100th anniversary on Thursday, February 12, 2009. OXFAM, ACORN, RFK CENTER, AND OTHERS WRITE OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT-ELECT OBAMA

Washington, DC-- On January 8th, President-Elect Barack Obama, Majority Leader Harry Reid, and Speaker Nancy Pelosi received letters urging the issuing of an Executive Order authorizing the Gulf Coast Civic Works Program and the inclusion of $6.7 billion for Gulf Coast Civic Works projects to rebuild communities, restore the coastal environment and revitalize local economies in the American Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Act. RFK Center and 2005 RFK Human Rights Award Winner Stephen Bradberry of ACORN organized 140 diverse community, environmental, faith, human rights, labor, and student organizations across Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas and their national allies as part of the Gulf Coast Civic Works Campaign to call the new Administration and Congress to action on the human rights crisis faced by communities across America's Gulf Coast.  Read More |

SILVERDOCS Presents TROUBLE THE WATER in a special screening followed by a special event for the New Orleans-based community organization Historic Green on Tuesday, Feb. 3. The event begins with a special screening of the film on Tuesday, February 3, 7:00 p.m. at the AFI Silver Theatre & Cultural Center in Silver Spring, MD, followed by a reception and silent auction. 2008 was an extraordinary year, and we are grateful to everyone who has supported Trouble the Water by seeing it, by sharing the trailer, and by sharing your own stories with us.

We are honored that the film has been listed on many critics 2008 top ten lists -- in the LA Times, the New Yorker, Salon, Entertainment Weekly, and New York magazine among other publications. ACADEMY UNVEILS LIST OF ELIGIBLE SONGS

As reported in Variety late Tuesday: Forty-nine eligible songs are in the running for Oscar nominations. List includes 11 tracks from "High School Musical 3: Senior Year" and three from "Repo! The Genetic Opera." Songs from two docus -- "They Killed Sister Dorothy" and "Trouble the Water" -- also made the cut.

That's right, the title track from TROUBLE THE WATER, performed and composed for the film by Kimberly Rivers Roberts, aka BlackKoldMadina, is eligible in the Best Original Song category.
