ALERT: HERE’S ONE WAY TO HELP THE CITIZENS OF THE GULF COAST NOW

I can’t wait to see this documentary. I heard about it on the Steve Harvey Morning Show. Any pieces of information that allows Americans to better understand what the people in the gulf area went through can only help in the future. I can’t wait till September 26 when it opens in Washington DC! John, I think we have to realize it was a loose-loose situation from day one. But the ones who lost the most are the individuals who ultimately lost there life. I don’t know personally of anyone caught in this terrible act of nature, but it makes me wonder…… This could happen to me. Yes, warnings went out for people to evacuate, but if I don’t have a car, or I’m low income and I don’t have money for gas, or my elderly family had no way of leaving because of medical issues….I think I would stay too. But that’s not the point. The point is New Orleans and several other low income communities are simply forgotten about across the country. We can’t continue to allow Americas “dirty little secret” to manifest. .
This documentary is raw and gives a perspective rarely covered. The displaced, the poor, the uneducated (book smart) and those who simply are on the fringes. Many who see this, especially those who don’t understand the people on the bottom on the social-structure (John’s comment above), will be uncomfortable and think “these” people are crazy or stupid, but you will appreciate how 2 ex-drug dealers, who happen to be married become the voice for those left behind, as you see life through their lens.
How much do Gold Teeth cost??? It seemed like Gold Teeth was their badge of pride or something but I guess that what choices are all about - everyone will make different choices based on their own value system.
Regardless of whether those affected by Katrina left during the storm or not, they’re homes were flooded and our government has the responsibility to assist its citizens with rebuilding! Comments about someone having gold-teeth, or being of low-income are superficial, elitist and ignorant - the people need and are entitled to receiving help. What matter is your value-system if you are in a situation where you need help beyond the measure by which you can provide for yourself? Hurricanes and floods care not of your color, race, socio-economic status, value-system, and ability or inability to evacuate from their paths. The government of The United States of America is “supposed” to aid it’s citizens and to blame the folks vitimized by this storm is stupid!! When is it that you among us who think that the citizens of New Orleans and other Gulf Coast communities should be “left behind” express contempt for our government when it bails out the rich and corporate folks through bankruptcy? Think before you speak.
I was there during Katrina. What most people do not understand is that it wasn’t the hurricane that damaged & flooded New Orleans. It was a levee system that we were told was build & maintained by the federal government to protect us from hurricanes. What they failed to mention was that it wasn’t built up to their own specifications & wasn’t being maintained per their own regulations. This is what killed over 1200 people, severely damaged or destroyed thousands of homes & changed the lives well over a millon people. Blame the ones who caused the suffering, not victims.
