Lone Star Legal Aid

 

LSLA is a non-profit law firm, operating as the fourth largest legal aid organization of its type in the United States, which provides free civil legal assistance to individuals and families who have immediate needs but cannot afford an attorney. The firm's service area covers one-third of the state, including 72 counties in the eastern and Gulf Coast regions of Texas. Prior to Ike, LSLA closed more than 10,000 hurricane cases. LSLA recently launched free weekly legal help clinics for families and individuals who need assistance with Ike-related FEMA appeals and hurricane legal matters such as: home repair scams, insurance claim denials, school enrollment for children of evacuated families, hurricane property rights and tax problems, public housing matters, landlord-tenant and hurricane-related evictions.In addition, LSLA has distributed more than 60,000 multilingual recovery legal information packets. All federally declared disaster counties are in the LSLA service area.
